The Complete CBD Oil Benefits List

If you’re looking to get into taking cbd oil in any form, you may want to know more about it. Here you’ll find a complete cbd oil benefits list.

CBD is officially mainstream – around a third of Americans have used CBD. Those who love CBD preach of its amazing benefits, while skeptics see little value in CBD.

But as with all new health crazes, it’s difficult to know what’s a fad and what’s a fact. This isn’t aided by the fact that very little scientific research on CBD has been done, so there are few definitive answers just yet.

All this being said, studies have indicated that there may be some impressive benefits to CBD. Here’s our complete CBD oil benefits list.

What Is CBD Oil?

A quick overview of CBD for those not yet in the know. CBD is an oil derived from a cannabis or hemp plant. It’s what we’d call a cannabinoid.

Other cannabinoids include THC, CBG, and CBN, with THC being the most famous for its psychoactive properties. CBD oil is not psychoactive, which means it doesn’t get you high.

All cannabinoids work in the same way. They interact with cannabinoid receptors which are part of the endocannabinoid system within the human body. The body has two cannabinoid receptors – CB1 and CB2.

CBD stimulates both these receptors so that the body produces its own endocannabinoids. This is how CBD oil can produce significant changes in sensation in the body. These changes may have significant medical benefits.

CBD Oil Benefits List

As we mentioned earlier, very few scientific studies have been done into the potential benefits of CBD oil. However, studies have revealed that CBD may help with a huge variety of conditions, and there is continuing research into the effect of CBD on these conditions. Some of the most widely studied health benefits are as follows:

Mental Health

CBD may be able to help with a wide array of mental health conditions. This is because CBD may affect the way your brain’s receptors interact with serotonin – which regulates your mood.

For those suffering from anxiety, a study has shown CBD may help. Not only because it interacts with our brain’s receptors, but it may help reduce other symptoms of anxiety such as increased heart rate and stress. This study showed CBD significantly reduced anxiety ahead of usually stressful situations like public speaking.

Closely related, because of the potential benefit of anxiety reduction, CBD may also help depression. A 2015 study found that CBD had antidepressant-like effects.

This is likely due to the effect CBD has on the way our brain interacts with serotonin. Given many people who suffer from depression also suffer from stress and anxiety, CBD could be hugely beneficial for reducing the symptoms of a variety of mental illnesses.

CBD has also been shown to decrease fear expression. While this may not sound too impressive, it could be helpful in treating PTSD and other mental health conditions which have a fear reaction.

Because CBD disrupts memory reconsolidation and reduces fear expression, this could change the way PTSD patients retrieve memories. This means for traumatic memories, CBD could be incredibly helpful in lessening the fear related to these memories. For therapies like exposure therapy or trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, CBD could aid the therapeutic healing process.

Epilepsy

CBD has made headlines frequently for its potential abilities to aid those suffering from epilepsy. The American Epilepsy Society has stated CBD research is hopeful for seizure disorders. Current research mainly revolves around how much CBD is needed to reduce seizures, as well as the safety of those doses long-term.

Previously, studies have shown that epileptic participants taking CBD had significantly fewer seizures – 35 percent fewer a month. A different study showed CBD may reduce the frequency of seizures in patients with Dravet and Lennox-Gastaut syndromes.

However, much more research is needed into the CBD side effects as some patients have had adverse side effects. Always consult with a doctor before using CBD if you have a seizure disorder.

Pain

CBD may also be beneficial to those suffering from chronic pain.

An animal research study showed some evidence that CBD can help with nerve and inflammatory pain. As CBD has anti-inflammatory properties, this could help with chronic conditions like arthritis, autoimmune disorders, and muscle or joint pains.

Some research suggests when using CBD for pain relief, it may be even more effective when taken in combination with a full spectrum of cannabinoids, such as THC and CBG. This is what’s known as the entourage effect.

Neuroprotective

Neuroprotective means protecting the brain cells against degrading. As CBD interacts with receptors in the brain, it has great potential to help those with neurodegenerative disorders. This includes disorders like Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and even multiple sclerosis.

Relief of Cancer Treatment Symptoms

A wordy title – but a worthwhile clarification. There is research into CBD and its effects on cancer cell growth, but nothing is conclusive as of yet. However, CBD may help relieve symptoms from cancer treatments.

This includes side effects of treatments like radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Common side effects include nausea and lack of appetite. As studies have suggested CBD can help decrease nausea and increase appetite, it could help manage the symptoms of cancer treatments.

Sleep Conditions

High concentrations of CBD can cause drowsiness, which can help those with sleep conditions sleep better. A 2019 study showed 66 percent of patients with sleep issues who took CBD found improvement in their sleep patterns.

Is CBD Legal?

Not everywhere! Here in the USA, CBD oil is legal in some states, but not all. It’s important to check your state laws to find out whether CBD oil is legal in your state.

Is CBD Safe?

As with most things, CBD affects everyone differently. Some users find only beneficial effects while others have lesser-known side effects.

CBD products don’t have FDA approval, so they haven’t undergone thorough testing. That means you need to thoroughly research products and be buyer beware. You should also speak to your doctor about taking CBD oil beforehand.
